MESSIAHS / GOD’S BEGOTTEN SONS

Messiah: Hebrew “Mashia”, meaning anointed.

God had several messiahs (anointed ones), his most important one being King David: his first "begotten son".

(David speaking): “I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my son; this day have I begotten thee.” [Psa 2: 7]

(The Lord) “Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.” [Psa 18: 50]

“For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.” “Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.” “I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:” “With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.” “The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.” “And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.” “But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.” “I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.” “He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.” “Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.” “My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.” [Psa 89: 18-28]

King Cyrus the Great of Persia defeated Babylonia in 539 BCE. He released the Jews from captivity, and subsequently earned himself messiah status in the Bible. The problem with this messiah was the fact that he didn't believe in the existence of the Hebrew deity. God apparently planned to buy his faith through goods, power, and flattery, while insisting that it wasn't really a bribe.

"That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid." [Isaiah 44: 28]

"Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;" "I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:" "And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel." "I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the Lord of hosts." "Thus saith the Lord, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God." [Isaiah 45: 1-3, 13-14]

MORTAL GOD

Apparently, one day God will cease to be:

"Ye are my witnesses saith the Lord (speaking to Israel), and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me." [Isa 43: 10]
