FOOD

God gave a fairly detailed list of what people are allowed to eat; mostly in Leviticus, chapter 11.

“Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, These are the beasts which ye shall eat among all the beasts that are on the earth.” “Whatsoever parteth the hoof, and is clovenfooted, and cheweth the cud, among the beasts, that shall ye eat.” [Lev 11: 2-3]

“These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.” [Lev 11: 9]

“And every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth shall be an abomination; it shall not be eaten.” “Whatsoever goeth upon the belly, and whatsoever goeth upon all four, or whatsoever hath more feet among all creeping things that creep upon the earth, them ye shall not eat; for they are an abomination.” [Lev 11: 41-42]

“...Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.” [Lev 17: 14]

Specific things you can eat: the locust, the bald locust, beetles, grasshoppers.

Specific things you can’t eat: camel, coney, hare, swine, eagles, the ossifrage, the osprey, vultures, kites, ravens, owls, night hawks, the cuckow, hawks, the little owl, cormorants, the great owl, swans, pelicans, gier eagles, storks, herons, lapwings, bats, four-legged birds, weasels, mice, tortoises, ferrets, chameleons, lizards, snails, moles.

Of course, if God had known about any of the animals that existed outside of the Middle East, the lists would be much longer.
