EARTH

Many ancient civilizations believed that the earth was flat, and floated upon the water. Many also thought that the water was above the heavens as well (the source of rain). Naturally, this was also what their gods believed.

“And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” [Gen 1:2]

“And God said let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.” “...God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.” “And God called the firmament heaven.” “...Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.” [Gen 1:6-9]

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:” [Exo 20: 4]
"The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth:" [Deut 4: 16]
"Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:" [Deut 5: 8]

EVIL

Prior to the invention of the evil version of Satan, all evil came from God.

"I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." [Isaiah 45: 7]

“And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.” [Exo 32:14]

"...for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you." [Jere 42: 10]

"Out of the mouth of the most High proceedeth not evil and good?" [Lam 3: 38]

“For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands.” [Deut 31:29]

“Therefore it shall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the Lord your God promised you; so shall the Lord bring upon you all evil things, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which the Lord your God hath given you.” [Josh 23:15]

“But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him.” “And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.” [1 Sam 16: 14,15]

“And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying,” “Seest thou how Ahab humbleth himself before me? because he humbleth himself before me, I will not bring the evil in his days: but in his son’s days will I bring the evil upon his house.” [1 Kings 21: 28,29]

“And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?” “And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.” [2 Chron 7: 21,22]

“Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil against thee.” [2 Chron 18: 22]

“He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.” [Psa 78: 49]

“Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.” “Incline not my heart to any evil thing,...” [Psa 141: 3-4]

“...and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the Lord had brought upon him...” [Job 42: 11]

“And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the Lord beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the Lord stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite.” [1 Chron 21: 15]

"Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them." [Jere 11: 11]

"For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the Lord of hosts." [Jere 25: 29]

(God speaking) "If so be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may repent me of the evil, which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings." [Jere 26: 3]

"And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them:" "And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me." "For thus saith the Lord; Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them." [Jere 32: 39, 40, 42]

"Therefore thus saith the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them..." [Jere 35: 17]

"It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them..." [Jere 36: 3]

"And I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they hearkened not." [Jere 36: 31]

"...and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them." [Jere 42: 17]

"Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Ye have seen all the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, and upon all the cities of Judah; and behold, this day they are a desolation, and no man dwelleth therein," [Jere 44: 3]

"And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest." [Jere 45: 5]
